Spectacular footage of whales playing at the anchorage in Port Hedland has emerged online.
The seven-minute video shows two humpback whales frolicking next to boats at the western anchorage, and was posted on YouTube titled “Having a whale of a time in Port Hedland”.
Nick Sayers, who filmed the video on his phone while working on a commercial launch boat, said these were the first whales he had seen this year.
“On the way out to anchorage we were saying we hadn’t seen any whales in a while, then we spotted four separate pods,” he said.
Humpback whales can be seen off the Port Hedland coast from June to October as they make their way from Antarctic waters to northern Australia.'The West Australian' is a trademark of West Australian Newspapers Limited 2013.
