Auzcorp to extend Mia Mia lease

Property developer Auzcorp wants to extend its lease of the Mia Mia accommodation camp, near the airport on the Great Northern Highway, for another five years.

The company’s initial lease of the land, which was signed in late 2009, was valid for five years.

Auzcorp plans to open its dining area to the public by March next year and wants to construct further facilities including a training and conference centre, external catering services, a lounge bar and coffee shop for the wider community.

Mayor Kelly Howlett said the proposed extension was not a done deal.

“At this stage it is just authorising the chief executive to prepare a business plan for a major land transaction.”

She said the proposal would improve the availability of accommodation within the town.

The company has committed to sourcing at least 20 per cent of suppliers locally and 75 per cent of its workforce from the community.
