One man is attempting to feed 120 dogs, a cow and a pig whose owners were evacuated from flood ravaged Warmun.

The community of about 300 was forced to leave their pets when evacuated by helicopter last week. Rangers are helping one man who stayed behind to keep the animals from starving.

Shire of Halls Creek chief executive Andrea Nunan said rangers would try to reach the community tomorrow.

“There is nothing wrong with what the resident is doing but it is a big job for one guy and he has been relying on generous donations of food … if and when it can get into Warmun,” Ms Nunan said.

“They would also like to identify issues of ticks on certain animals and any more urgent medical care that might be required.”

She said there was no long-term plan for the animals but they would not be culled.
