Woolorama rodeo sets the standard

Rodeo Queen of Australia Danielle Quinsee with Miss Rodeo Fundraiser of the Year Sharee Whitlock mingled with the crowd and attended the rodeo.

The Woolorama’s popular rodeo drew in close to 190 riders and about 4000 spectators who put a distinctly Wagin touch to the national event on March 7-8.

Riders came from all States to compete and, while there was plenty of action on the field, a highlight was when the rodeo clown was bucked high into the air to a gasping crowd.

Rodeo organiser Arthur Pederick said he enjoyed watching the rodeo become an event in its own right alongside the Woolorama.

Making the trip were two special guests, Rodeo Queen of Australia Danielle Quinsee from Victoria, and Miss Rodeo Fundraiser of the Year Sharee Whitlock from Queensland, who visited Wagin for the first time.

Both women travel around supporting the rodeo industry across the country said they were impressed with the size of Wagin’s rodeo and the enthusiastic town that supported the event.

“I began competing in the ladies open barrel race 3½ years ago and decided to give becoming queen a go,” said Ms Quinsee.

“I just started break away roping as well, but when we’re on tour we don’t get a chance to ride in the rodeo.”

Ms Whitlock rides in the same categories, including participating in steer decorating, but said she was impressed with Wagin’s rodeo effort.

“I thought Woolorama was just another rodeo, but it’s not,” she said.

“Everyone comes together, so seeing thousands of people here has been great.”
