Asha Wiegele kept the records tumbling in this season’s Albany Little Athletics Club competition when she broke a six-year record in the discus on Saturday.
The youngster threw 9.71 metres with her second attempt to go past the old under-7 girls’ record of 9.35m set by Georgina Lilford in 2004.
The throw was one of several strong performances on Saturday, with open runner Adam Halsall posting a time of 12 seconds flat for the 100m sprint.
Meanwhile, 17 ALAC members will head to Geraldton for the country championships this weekend, with club registrar Sue Howlett confident the team will perform well.
“They should go quite well and our biggest age group is the under-9s where we have three girls and two boys competing,” she said.
