Junior tennis players from Albany, Perth and Esperance descended on Lawley Park Tennis Club to have a one-on-one session with former world number eight Alicia Molik last weekend.

More than 20 budding tennis stars were taken through their paces at the annual high performance camp.

The group were also put through fitness sessions at Bodycare to improve performance on the court

Albany Tennis Academy director of tennis David Kerr said it was the best camp the club had run.

“For Alicia Molik to come down to Albany and give up her time and help teach our juniors is great,” he said.

Kerr said the children were split into groups of four and received more than an hour of coaching from Molik.

“She explained to everyone what sacrifices she had to make in her career to get where she was, and the choices she made to get there,” he said.

“Alicia gave everyone tips on tactics while playing as well as their individual technique and to have confidence in playing their shots.”

A group of 10 camp competitors are taking part in the 2013 Reabold Junior Hardcourts event in Perth, which runs until Friday.
