Ex-staff members and Education Department officials battled wet and windy conditions to farewell Katanning Senior High School legend Jan Denton.
The school registrar and business manager was joined by more than 30 staff, friends and family as well as ex-principals who travelled from throughout the south of the State.
Mrs Denton said she might not miss the work but she would miss the people.
“I’ve had 35 years with the Education Department and it’s a very big move,” she said.
“But the time is right and it’s an exciting prospect.”
During her 31 years of service at Katanning High School she worked with 15 principals, and those that returned last week vouched for her professionalism, knowledge and warm approach.
Principal Nicki Polding said anything Mrs Denton did not know about school finances was not worth knowing.
“Jan’s sensitivity to the needs of staff is displayed through her compassionate manner and personal approach,” she said.
“She has consistently achieved exemplary financial audits over her years and her management is outstanding.”Mrs Denton was presented with flowers, gifts and a silver medallion from the Department of Education awarded to employees for 20 or more years of service. She plans to relax for a few months before travelling with her husband.
