Katanning residents can look forward to work starting on the revitalisation of Clive Street by mid-2013.

Details of the $8 million revitalisation, part of the Royalties for Regions SuperTowns initiative, were revealed by MP Terry “Tuck” Waldron at the Town Hall last Thursday.

The work is set to include the beautification of the town centre and the construction of a town square.

Mr Waldron said the SuperTowns plan provided a “roadmap for the future development of Katanning”.

“This is very much about the people, we’ve had great support,” he said.

Mr Waldron was joined by Shire of Katanning staff and councillors, shire chief executives from surrounding areas, the chairman of the Great Southern Development Commission Peter Rundle, residents and representatives from local businesses at the event to announce details of Katanning’s supertown plan.

The event followed a community meeting last Monday night which allowed engineers and town planners to meet with residents, who highlighted any concerns or suggestions they had for the plan.

Mr Waldron congratulated the smooth work of the government and private organisations involved in the delivery of the project and said it would provide more opportunities for people who chose to live and work in the regions.

It is expected that a master plan for the works will be finalised by December 25, with tenders going out in April next year and work to begin in June or July.

Shire president Richard Kowald was very enthusiastic about the plan, encouraging community members to get involved and said the project was about the facilities but also providing as many opportunities as possible for the people of Katanning.
