Members of Katanning’s police were honoured last Thursday for continued outstanding service in the Great Southern.

Assistant Commissioner for Regional WA Murray Smalpage joined District Superintendent Catherine Bullen to award local police officers with ethical and diligent service medals.

Senior Sergeant Rod Marshall was honoured with a national service medal for 40 years of service and Peter Payne was honoured for 23 years and nine months; both have now retired. Sergeant Rob Smithson received a national award for 30 years of service.

Albany Senior Constable Norm Gill and Sergeant Simon Womersley were both awarded for 15 years of service and customer service officer Chris Norris, of Kojonup, was recognised for 10 years of service.

Having recently come off probation, Constable Aaron Biggs and Constable Sascha Dzaferovic also received recognition.

Assistant Commissioner Smalpage said it was a rare chance to acknowledge the hard work of officers in the region.
