Ten bright new faces will be lighting up Albany’s medical scene when they start placements at the Rural Clinical School of WA next week.
The Perth, country and international students, from Notre Dame University and the University of WA, will be involved in various areas of medicine during their 10-month stint in Albany.Co-ordinator Andrew Knight said the students, who were in their second-last year of study, would “thrive” in the country lifestyle.
“They’ll be living in two houses, which is part of the experience of learning together,” he said.
“That covers most areas of medicine. They’ll be delivering babies, learning about children’s illnesses, Aboriginal health and general practice, surgery, eyes – it’s really a broad curriculum.”
Dr Knight is helping run the program for his sixth time in Albany and ninth time across the region, along with four other coordinators.
“I think it’s great for Albany. We’ve got 10 bright, enthusiastic young students that will work in the region,” he said.
