KEIR TUNBRIDGE, The West Australian November 21, 2011, 6:00 am

A 56-year-old man died after a suspected heart attack while surfing near Albany yesterday.

Sgt Danny Richmond said the Albany man was found face down in the water while surfing with friends at Mutton Bird beach about 7am.

Sgt Richmond said the man's friends dragged him to shore and tried to revive him. Police and St John Ambulance attended the scene and the man was pronounced dead.

"It appears that he had some kind of attack of a medical kind in the water," Sgt Richmond said.
