Several properties are believed to have been destroyed by a large bushfire that started at the back of Pink Lake yesterday.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services regional officer Gavin Wornes said the blaze was one of two that threatened homes in Esperance in 38C heat, with another fire threatening houses in the Sinclair area earlier in the day.
“A couple of houses may be lost in that area (Pink Lake), but they are unconfirmed reports at this stage,” Mr Wornes said yesterday afternoon.
A bushfire alert issued at 3.27pm said homes in Spencer Road were being affected by fire.
Mr Wornes said there had been one injury, when a firefighter suffered heat-stroke, but recovered later in the day.
The Pink Lake fire was reported about 12.30pm between Spencer Road and Eleven Mile Beach Road. Roads were closed in the area, including Dunkley Circuit, Barook Road and Eleven Mile Beach Road between Twilight Beach Road and Barook Road.
