Despite being pipped at the post at this year’s Regional Achievement and Community Awards, the Goldfields Indigenous Housing Organisation says it was great to be recognised among industry leaders.
The housing agency was nominated as a finalist in the Department of Indigenous Affairs indigenous service award category for its tenancy support program.
Award winners were announced at a ceremony held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 16.
GIHO chief executive Julia Shadlow-Bath said it was a “huge deal” for the organisation to be nominated as a finalist for the awards.
“We were thrilled to have prepared a good-looking submission for the Regional Achievement Awards, but to end up being one of the final four in the State was a great affirmation of the hard work the board and the GIHO team has undertaken these past three years,” Ms Shadlow-Bath said.
“The winner of our category, Goolari Media, went on to win the overall prize across for the 10 category winners, so we know we were up against the best of the best.”
