The 2012 Kalgoorlie-Boulder Relay for Life went off without a hitch at the weekend and looks set to surpass last year’s fundraising total.
Event chairman Peter Sweeney said he was blown away by the generosity of the community.
“With the economy a bit flat and the pockets a bit empty, the total’s probably $50,000 or $60,000 above what we expected, ” he said.
“We’re at $261,000 and still counting – it certainly looks like we’ve surpassed last year. Everybody there was absolutely rapt with what they’d done.”
He said it was even more impressive considering there were fewer teams than at last year’s inaugural relay.
“The Champagne Sisters raised $34,000 by themselves,” he said. “Some people are quite unbelievable."
