For the first time in Kalgoorlie-Boulder a national initiative aims to help those caring for someone suffering from depression.
Local Partners in Depression facilitator and mental health professional Judi Walters said support was now at hand for these carers, who were often overlooked.
“Research indicates carers and loved ones of people with depression are also at risk of developing mental health problems,” she said.
“During the workshops, people will learn a number of tools to combat depression and learn what is available in the community to get help.
“It is also an opportunity to meet people who may be in the same boat – it helps to know you are not alone.”
The Partners in Depression program will be held over six weeks and will address the information and support needs of those who live with or love someone experiencing depression. Starting tomorrow at 6pm, Partners in Depression is offered at no cost. To register to attend phone Ms Walters on 9088 6200.
