A group of Kalgoorlie-Boulder children have taken out the top student prizes in an international filmmaking competition aimed at promoting awareness of sustainable energy.
Hannans Primary School students Sophia Clipperton and Micah Bokelund and O’Connor Primary School student Sebastian Gardiner were awarded first place in the Best Student Film category at the 2012 Scinema Film Awards.
Second place was awarded to Jessie De Been and Zoe Kelly, from North Kalgoorlie Primary School, for their film You’ve Got The Power.”
Organised by CSIRO, the annual awards first began in 2000.
Prizes were awarded in a number of categories for five-minute films about this year’s theme – sustainable energy. Primary Extension and Challenge coordinator Susan Webber said she was extremely proud of the students’ achievements.
“It is a lot of hard work,” she said.
