Goldfields Golf Club officials are counting down to the February 28 launch of a program aimed specifically at attracting girls to the sport.
The Thursday afternoon sessions are supported by Golf WA and, during term one, will encompass six one-hour introductory clinics.
Those sessions will be hosted by course professional Paul Breuker and interested participants are required to formally register with junior golf co-ordinator Mark Baroni at email@example.com.
Sessions will be conducted from 4.30pm and those those taking part will meet at the front of the clubhouse at 4.15pm. The remaining dates are March 7, 14 and 21 and April 4 and 11.
“National participation rates for girls playing golf is nine per cent and initially the Goldfields Golf Club’s junior program reflected this number,” Baroni said.
“However, while the boys have stuck at it, some girls have dropped away.“By adopting the Girls’ Golf Club program and targeting the girls, we hope to build the numbers to that equal of the boys and buck the national trend."
