Goldfields quad bike rider Sarah Moore went within a whisker of retaining her open women’s title at the Australian Quad MX Championships in Victoria last month.
The local teenager, who was 17 at the time of the competition, finished second by a solitary point behind fellow WA rider Simone Gaisford in the five-race event.
After claiming the 2011 title, Moore said a slight mistake in the third race had cost her back-to-back championships.
“In the first race, I finished third and in the second race I got the whole shot and finished first, ” Moore said.
“During the third race, I was leading for the whole time when I over-jumped and nearly went over the bars of my bike.
“The girl in second place (Gaisford) went under me, got the chequered flag and then won the next three races. If I had won that race I would have won the title, but she beat me by a point.“She also beat me by a point at the WA State titles.”
