GFL ponders options

One of the WA Country Football League’s major powerbrokers would favour the introduction of a Player Points System, as opposed to a salary cap, in any efforts to create a more even playing field among local clubs next season and beyond.

Following Monday night’s annual Goldfields Football League forum, the board of commissioners has proposed the introduction of a salary cap from 2013.

Former GFL chairman Hugh Gallagher, now the league’s media officer, said a salary cap would play a significant role in ensuring the local game remained “relatively equitable.”

But WACFL operations manager Joe Georgiades, who attended Monday’s forum, offered a Player Points System as an alternative.
