Boulder officials, under new president Ray Collis, have underlined their faith in former premiership star Jason Rowe by entrusting him with the senior coaching role for the 2012 Goldfields Football League season.

Collis said Rowe would provide a wealth of experience as a player-coach as the Tigers strive to break a seven-year premiership drought this season.

He also confirmed the days of the black and golds bringing in players on a fly-in, fly-out basis were effectively over.

“He will have good support on the bench and we figured it was probably better to look in our own backyard, ” Collis said of Rowe’s ability to win the job.

“I did look at a bloke in Melbourne, but he wanted to stay there (because) he has a hip injury and wanted to get over it before heading out here.

“He (Rowe) took training last Wednesday and everyone was up and about – 38 blokes who showed signs, good signs.

“There’s no more fly-in, fly-out for us – I’d rather give the money to our local boys and we have a plan in place.

“Obviously, we might have to recruit one or two, maybe three.

“But only what we need (and) probably a ruckman because we’re lacking in ruckmen.”
