Martin to trial in Sicily

Goldfields karting star Anthony Martin will seek to draw upon the experience of Dutch KZ2 world champion Joey Hanssen during a series of special test sessions in Italy this week.

In the biggest moment of his fledgling career, Martin will rub shoulders with many of the sport’s biggest names after accepting an offer to trial with renowned European manufacturer Lenzo Karts in Brolo, Sicily.

The 16-year-old will spend four days at Lenzo’s test facility in Brolo, before flying to the southern Italian city of Lecce for a three-day stint alongside a virtual who’s who of the continent’s leading drivers.

The trip could not have come at a better time for Martin, who is busily preparing for his debut into the senior KZ2 class at the CIK Stars of Karting Series, beginning next month.

The opportunity to glean information from such experienced drivers is something Martin believes will greatly benefit his racing back in Australia, although it is 2011 world champion Hanssen he is most eager to meet.
