G4S staff set to join Serco

Kalgoorlie Miner June 29, 2011, 9:36 am

It is expected the majority of G4S staff will be employed by Serco when it takes over providing court security and custodial services in the State.

The international security provider will take over transporting prisoners and providing security in courtrooms from July 31.

The contract is worth $210 million over five years and has two options to extend to 10 years.

A Serco spokesman said the company would work with the Department of Corrective Services to “ensure a safe transition”.

“The scope of the new contract is greater than the current arrangements, ” he said.

“We therefore anticipate we will require more people than are employed in the current contract."
