Radio advertising launched yesterday by the WA Nuclear Free Alliance has directly attacked the WA Nationals and the use of Royalties for Regions funds for uranium mining exploration.
The advertising, timed for next month’s State Election, targets the seats of Pilbara and Kalgoorlie and names the WA Nationals candidates for the seats, leader Brendon Grylls and Wendy Duncan.
WANFA is basing its attack on responses to Parliamentary Questions which show uranium companies received funds from the R4R backed Exploration Incentive Scheme. They have declared the situation “Radiation for Regions”.
“The Liberals have been clear on their position on uranium mining,” WANFA spokeswoman Mia Pepper said.
“But the WA Nationals have not been that clear.
“We see there has been some deception on how Royalties for Regions has been used and people deserve to know.”Ms Duncan denied the WA Nationals had any say on where the EIS funds were directed, saying this was managed by the Department of Mines and Petroleum.
