'Mates' are set for Black Dog Ride

Local support group Mates 4 Mates is joining the national Black Dog Ride for depression and suicide prevention awareness.

Mates 4 Mates founders Rod “Rocket” Marra and Kathy Nikolaenko said this was the second year they were teaming up with the Black Dog Ride.

“I’ve been directly affected by depression and we’ve decided to raise awareness in the Goldfields and join the Black Dog national ride,” Mr Marra said. To register for the Black Dog ride go to www.blackdogride.com.au or phone Ms Nikolaenko on 0430 447 785.

“Last year we decided the Esperance run was a good route to take and we had about 70 bikes come with us on short notice.”

The Black Dog Ride is a nation-wide event, with 17 legs across all States and Territories.

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder to Esperance ride is one of two in the State, with Dardanup being the only other leg.
