The Gold City Rollers shed their tough girl image and got into the Valentine’s Day spirit yesterday as they delivered chocolates to loved ones across the city.
The Valentine’s Day delivery was the brainchild of Linda Belton, who said the move was a great way to raise the roller derby team’s profile.
“It’s a different way to raise our profile around the city, but this is a way to show that we do more than just skate,” Ms Belton said.
“We’ve had a great reaction so far, even from some of our rival clubs across the State, so I think they might steal our idea for next year.”
Gold City Rollers 2012 most valuable player Bang Bang Lou Lou said it was a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
“Everyone deserves to feel loved on Valentine’s Day, but some people don’t really fit into the traditional flowers and teddy bears category,” she said. “This is where the derby girls come in and deliver their Valentine’s chocolates with a little bit of rough and tumble.”The chocolates were supplied by local company Cocoa Desert Chocolates.
