Goldfielders who have shown their love and support for Lauren Copping and Devro Matekuara’s baby Zara will be glad to hear of her startling improvement.
Just days after receiving news Zara might not survive her battle with chronic lung disease and pulmonary hyper-tension, Zara shocked everyone.
She was given a dose of steroids in a last-ditch bid to keep her alive and, within three days, doctors said she looked like a new patient.
“She shocked them all, they said the steroids should not have worked that fast to make the swelling and pressures in the heart come down, ” Lauren said.
“Whether it was just time I’m not sure, but they weren’t expecting her to make it and now she’s done this huge turnaround.
“They don’t want to mention it too soon, but there is a possibility towards the next month she could be coming home.”Turning six months old today, Zara still weighs less than 4kg, but is off a lot of the drugs she was on and only has an oxygen tank to assist with her breathing.
