The future of the Goldfields Arts Centre was a hot topic at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s ordinary council meeting on Monday.
The centre was brought to the council’s attention by an arts centre representative during public question time.
The representative brought up the issue of the future management of the centre, the main concern being the embargo placed on commercial bookings past August.
Members of the Arts centre President Kevin Blair has previously said not being able to take bookings will hurt the arts centre.
Mr Blair said theatre and entertainment bookings needed to happen 12-18 months in advance and it was impossible to book them before August. The representative said on Monday the centre should ideally have 25 to 30 commercial bookings a year, but for the past three years, there had only been approximately 16 a year.
