Kalgoorlie-Boulder may be hundreds of kilometres from the nearest beach, but after an extended hiatus caused by vandals, it appears the surf’s up again this summer.

After nearly a year out of action, the Flowrider wave machine at the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre is expected to be back in operation by the end of the month.

The machine was decommissioned last summer when vandals broke into the Oasis and damaged the tension bar and mat.

The road to recovery has been long for the popular attraction, one of only two in Australia when it opened in 2008.

Replacement parts had to be manufactured overseas and could only be installed by a specialist technician, expected to arrive from Canada at the end of January.
