The hot weather is expected to continue in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance until the start of next year.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the maximum temperatures of 36C in Kalgoorlie-Boulder for the rest of the week with this rising to 39C on Sunday.
However, next week residents can expect temperatures of 42C on New Years Eve and 43C on New Year Day. The weather is likely to be cooler for Esperance, with many in the town holidaying and enjoying the beach, with the maximum temperature forecast to be 33C today and 31C tomorrow.
This follows predictions of a “heatwave” in Perth with temperatures to be more than 40C until Monday.
But with the hot weather this week, a group of Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents found the best way to keep cool with a pool side seat watching the first day of the Boxing Day Test.
Don Liley and six of his friends and family joined him in the pool. Mr Liley said he was looking forward to the event for two weeks after being busy at work.“It was really hot,” Mr Liley said. “We had to put up a cheap tarp for sun shade.”
