Shire of Ravensthorpe president Cr Ian Goldfinch said he would be "devastated" if a coalition of environmental groups halted a bid to extend the barrier fence in Esperance.
The lobby yesterday launched its campaign, Stop and Rethink the Fence, with its primary concern on the "inhumane" and "outdated" use of fences to protect pastoral lands.
The fence extension has been supported by the Department of Agriculture and Food which has commissioned a $130,000 scoping studying to examine potential routes for construction.
The campaign has called on people to urge Premier Colin Barnett, State Government Ministers and local politicians to reverse support for the proposal. But Cr Goldfinch, shire president for a region where much of the fence would be built, said the group was ill-informed and he couldn’t understand their argument.
