The crucial issue for the campaign against Tony Crook will be whether he is an “authentic” conservative or a “renegade” in Parliament.
This is the line of political attack from Senator Dean Smith, who was two months ago chosen as the chairman for the Liberal campaign for the seat of O’Connor.
The Liberal Senator, who replaced Sen Judith Adams after she died this year, released a statement criticising Mr Crook.
He claims Mr Crook took “too long” to decide to side with the coalition after the 2010 Federal election.
He welcomed Mr Crook’s announcement he will re-contest the seat because the Liberals would challenge his record during his first term in Federal Parliament.Sen Smith said Mr Crook had proved to be “unreliable” at critical moments.
