It is safe to say any woman who makes it through a 20-hour labour deserves a parade.
But one Goldfields mum actually got one.
New Kambalda mum Chonteal Thomas was watching the St Barbara’s Festival parade when she realised she was in labour.
Standing in the middle of the York Hotel, the first-time mum said she was waiting to catch a glimpse of the Caterpillar 793F haul truck when her water broke.
“You kind of hope when this happens you will be at home and they all tell you: ‘oh it will probably happen in the middle of the night’,”she said.
“I was a bit dumbfounded; I just thought of all places, goodness me I am going to give birth in a pub.”
Husband Adrian Thomas was halfway through his beer when Mrs Thomas came over to give him the news.“I was in shock,” Mr Thomas said. “I thought she was joking to be honest.”
