Leonora had cause to celebrate last month after taking home a prize at the 2012 Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities awards.
The Northern Goldfields town was recognised as the winner of the General Appearance category at the awards on November 16.
Committee spokeswoman Sarah Mazza said it was a huge surprise for the town.
“I think it’s just recognition of Leonora and what a lovely town it is,” Ms Mazza said.
“I think all the residents of Leonora are very proud of the town and this has given (us) a good opportunity to showcase it.”She said it was the first time the town had entered the awards and the committee had organised a number of activities as part of its submission, including a general clean-up, a sausage sizzle and best verge, best shop front and best industrial block competitions.
