Mates supporting suicide prevention

A new Goldfields group aiming to raise awareness of suicide and support suicide prevention has held its first meeting in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Known as Mates4Mates, the group seeks to provide support and comfort for people in the region who may be struggling.

“We want people to know they have someone they can call, somewhere to go,” organiser Kathy Nikolaenko said.

Ms Nikolaenko said she was inspired to get involved in the campaign after her partner’s son committed suicide.

“Hopefully there’s a chance to stop someone else from making that call,” she said.
