North Kalgoorlie Primary School celebrated a milestone last week, with library officer Laraine Cowie turning 70.
School principal Karen Loan made a speech marking the event in which she described Mrs Cowie as both a friend and colleague and wished her a “wonderful happy birthday”.
Mrs Loan entertained an audience of teachers at a morning tea last Tuesday with facts detailing Mrs Cowie’s life.
“Laraine came into the world in 1942 along with duct tape and instant coffee and John Curtin was our nation’s Prime Minister,” Mrs Loan said.
“Laraine has been a living part of many moments in history, including world wars, man walking on the moon and the introduction of many modern industrial technological changes.”Mrs Loan concluded her speech by wishing Mrs Cowie’s years ahead be filled with good health, happiness and love. Mrs Cowie has worked at the school for 30 years and the library was named in her honour.
