Suspended sentence for spitting

A man who spat in the face of a hospital worker received a suspended sentence yesterday.

Adrian Sandy Dempster, 29, was sentenced in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court after previously pleading guilty to breaching a protective bail condition and assaulting a person in a hospital.

The act of spitting in the face of a hospital worker drew strong words from Magistrate Tom Hall who labelled the attack “disgusting”.

“People working in hospitals are there to care and help others and they do a good job,” the magistrate said.

“I would rather be punched in the face than spat on.”

Dempster was bailed on April 5 on other criminal matters.
