Black Dog ride for Josh
Rod Marra will be riding his motorbike from Kalgoorlie-Boulder to Esperance in memory of his son Josh.
The ride is one of many being undertaken across as the nation as part of the Black Dog Ride, National One Day Ride on Sunday, April 29, with the aim of raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention.
Mr Marra and a contingent of fellow riders and support crew will leave on Saturday, April 28, with breaks at Norseman and Grass Patch tavern and will return to Kalgoorlie-Boulder the following day.
Mr Marra, who lost his son to suicide six months ago, has organised the trip to raise community awareness and recognition of the significant number of people in remote regions who suffer from depression and to reduce the stigma associated with it.
“We want people to know you don’t have to do it alone,” he said. “Your mind can be your best friend, but it can be your worst enemy too.”
