An Esperance Rotarian, who joined the club on the same day decimal currency was introduced to Australia 46 years ago, was honoured for his long and ongoing service last week.
Rotary Club of Esperance president John Bridges awarded two Paul Harris sapphire pins to Doug Slater and his wife Marie.
Mr Slater is the club’s longest serving and still active Rotarian, joining the organisation on February 14, 1966, the same day pounds, shillings and pence gave way to dollars and cents.
He said he had enjoyed the fellowship of Rotarians over the years and serving the community.
“Fellowship and service come together,” he said.
