BHP Billiton Nickel West wants to keep its employees fit and healthy, which is why the company has paid for gym memberships for its Kalgoorlie workforce.
Staff can also take part in a health passport program, measuring things like blood sugar, BMI and kidney function and not solely focusing on weight loss.
The company has even organised a special boot camp at the Goldfields Oasis because the usual course clashes with early shifts at the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter.
The workers sweat it out three times a week with the goal of completing a mini triathlon at the end of the four-week program. There is also a prize for whoever achieves the best results in their health passport.
“We are committed to health and safety in the workplace and also helping our people embrace health and safety outside of work as part of the BHP Billiton health strategy,” BHP Billiton Nickel West Kalgoorlie health and safety manager Jorge Franco said.BHP Billiton chief sparks workplace rowBHP Billiton chief sparks workplace row ABC
