The Goldfields Children’s Choir has been invited to perform at an international choral festival in Spain in October.
The announcement, made on Sunday was an unexpected accolade for the choir which was formed only 12 months ago.
Felix Munoz, friend and former music colleague of the GCC’s founder — well-known pianist Bradley Gilchrist — invited the GCC to attend the festival he is helping to organise.
The event, called the Canta al Mar 2012 Festival Coral Internacional will be held in from October 17–21 in Calella, near Barcelona.
The announcement was made by Gilchrist, a former GCC director, during the first of his regular Sunday Recitals at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
Goldfields Children’s Choir director Graham Green said the news was very exciting and the choir had many challenges to face if it were going to submit an application to attend the festival. Choir auditions, which involve singing simple scales to ensure potential choristers have a good sense of pitch, will be held on February 22 from 5-6pm at the Goldfields Arts Centre Ensemble Room.An expedition to find a Goldfields murder siteAn expedition to find a Goldfields murder site ABC
