About 130 childcare workers travelled from all over the Goldfields to attend a workshop at the Goldfields Arts Centre on Saturday.

The workshop focused on the Early Years Learning Framework, a new agenda for early childhood care providers to be incorporated into the National Quality Standard over the next 12 months.

Children’s Services officer for the Department of Communities Leanne Fitzpatrick said childcare educators had travelled from Leinster, Esperance, Leonora and locally to attend the workshop.

“This type of workshop is very rare in Kalgoorlie and we are very lucky to have Dr Lennie Barblett from Edith Cowan University and Dr Anne Kennedy, a private consultant from Melbourne, as presenters, ” she said.

The new framework applies to all early childhood educators including childcare centres, family day care, outside school hours care and cre ches.

The framework has been put in place to ensure delivery of nationally consistent and quality early childhood education across all sectors of the industry.

The EYLF was developed by the Australian and State and Territory Governments with substantial input from the early childhood sector and early childhood academics.
