A new facility to provide extra support for girls struggling with their studies in Years 8 to 10 at Esperance Senior High School was unveiled last week.

The $118,000 Girls’ Academy has been set up as an initiative by the ESHS Parents and Citizens Association.

The Royalties for Regions program provided $70,000, with the remainder of the funding coming from the school.

Coordinator Sarah Hopley said up to 15 girls could be accommodated in the building, with about five students initially expected to take part in a new program being developed.

“We will find out their needs and will be tailoring the program to help them achieve their goals,” Ms Hopley said.

“Our main objectives are to help them achieve some success, build their confidence and keep them in mainstream schooling.”
