Club celebrates a tonne of meetings

Touch of Gold Toastmasters held a special event on Saturday night in celebration of its 100th meeting.

President Ivan Henderson said the public speaking club had grown strongly since starting in February 2007 and he had noticed members had been using the skills gained from the club in their workplaces.

“We have had quite a few members who have come along to toastmasters and the skills they have learnt through public speaking and leadership have led to them getting promotions in their jobs,” he said.

“It is good to see people come along and develop these skills and that these skills are not just used in the club. They use these skills in their daily life.”

The meeting included special guests from Perth and was attended by 26 people.

“On the night of the meeting we had five excellent speeches and they ranged from the English discovering Australia to Colonel Sanders cooking chicken to dramatic things that happen to trolley boys,” Mr Henderson said.
