Local gynaecologist Barney McCallum was recognised for his outstanding service to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community at yesterday’s Australia Day Awards.

Dr McCallum, received the Mayoral Award at Australia Day celebrations in Centennial Park.

Dr McCallum said he was absolutely flabbergasted by the award.

“I am surprised, flattered and somewhat embarrassed because I’m just doing my job,” Dr McCallum said.

“My wife knew before I did, someone had let her know – she is sneaky like that, always springing surprises on me.”
