Three mine workers were injured yesterday after wire mesh fell on them at the Agnew underground gold mine near Leinster.

The men, two mine employees and a contractor, were building an explosives magazine at the Gold Fields owned mine when concrete reinforcing mesh toppled onto them as they were moving it about 5am yesterday.

One man, 31, suffered chest injuries, a 38-year-old fractured his leg and a 26-year-old suffered a fractured wrist and possible spinal injuries.

They were treated at the Leinster Medical Centre and the Royal Flying Doctor Service sent two planes to the scene, one from Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the other from Jandakot.

Both planes returned to Perth with the men who are being treated at Royal Perth Hospital.

A company spokesman said the injuries were non life threatening, but the men had suffered shock.
