Heat spurs bushfire risk

Last week’s hot weather has led to heightened risk of bushfires and FESA has been kept busy with spot fires around the Goldfields.

A FESA spokesman said on Saturday they were monitoring a small bush fire north of Coolgardie at Gourdi Station and another about 400km due east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder at Kinclaven Station.

He said the latter fire had been caused by lightning strikes.

FESA issued a smoke alert for the Eyre Highway on Saturday morning where a fire was burning in the Shire of Dundas, about 70km north of the Cocklebiddy Roadhouse. FESA attended the scene.

“Motorists should remain alert and put their headlights on high beam if necessary, ” the spokesman said.
