The highly anticipated showdown between B52’s and Serpents in the women’s A-grade water polo grand final did not disappoint on Saturday.
Serpents eventually emerged 9-5 winners after a physical contest.
The game was a hard-fought battle as both teams created equally good opportunities as they attempted to wrestle momentum their way.
Serpents started to take their opportunities later in the half and jumped to a 5-2 half-time lead.
They could taste victory throughout the second half, but B52’s did not give up and continued to fight for every possession.
But they ran out of time and Serpents emerged on top, thanks to triple-goal efforts from Narelle Cocking and Coraleigh Abrams.
Janeen Mulligan tried her heart out for B52’s and netted three goals.
The votes for best in pool went to Abrams.
Grand final day started with Serpents Green and B52’s facing off in the women’s C-grade.
Serpents were in control all game and emerged 6-1 victors.
Tenielle Hawke netted three for the winners and was also judged as best in pool.
The battle between Demons and Serpents Green in the women’s B-grade was a closer affair.
Serpents snuck out to a three-one lead at half-time, but a six-goal second half by Demons saw them emerge seven-four winners.
Mia Gleghorn and Linda Rose bagged two apiece for the victors while Hawke made two for her team.
Gleghorn was voted best in pool.
The men’s B-grade was a spirited affair between stablemates B52’s Development and B52’s Blue with the former winning 4-1.
The Development team led by two at half-time and a consistent four-quarter effort saw them through in the end.
Beau Gleghorn netted three for the victors with Rod Baker scoring Blues’ goal.
Ray Pead was voted as best in grand final.
