A Waggrakine grandfather has been ‘blown over’ by the cancellation of his home insurance after the company in charge of his policy deemed his home to be at risk of cyclones.
Retired carpenter Reg Bradshaw said he was “reeling” when insurer Real Insurance wrote to him stating his policy was not being renewed because his Cooper St home was in “a cyclone remote” area.
The Bureau of Meteorology has recorded four “significant” cyclones to have hit Geraldton in more than 100 years — the most recent was 1956.
Mr Bradshaw, 76, said he was shocked when he opened the letter.
“I couldn’t believe I was being denied insurance for my home being at risk of a cyclone — that’s a weak excuse,” he said.
