PETA KINGDON © tough start: Ali Scott is one of many Geraldton chances at this week's country week tournament but her first match in the U14's division is against felloew local young gun Jess Kendall.

Jennifer Krummenacher will again fly the Geraldton flag at this year’s Country Week tennis competition after taking the crown home last year.

Krummenacher will face tough competition from Esperance’s Carla Welke and last year’s runner-up and fellow Geraldton young gun Emma Bowen.

Welke is seeded number one for the tournament and has drawn a first round tie with Bowen.

Krummenacher is the second seed for the tournament and will need to go through Merrifield Park’s Sally Partington in the first round if she hopes to retain the title.

Around 200 players will serve it up to be rightly called the best in regional WA in the 83rd running of the country week competition.

Players will take to the court for individual glory on Monday and Tuesday and then represent their home town clubs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Other Mid West players with claims to titles are Ali Scott and Lily Kerr.

Both players are in the 14 and under division and will team together in the doubles competition later in the week.

The young duo face a schedule of five games in three days.

Scott said her first singles match of the week could be the toughest.

“My first game against Jessica Kendall will be a hard and close match-up I think,” Scott said.

“Overall I’m not sure how I will go but I am just hoping for the best.”

In the Ladies Open Country Teams Championship starting on Wednesday, Bowen and Krummenacher will team together.

They will head into the doubles championship as favourites while fellow Geraldton pairing Holly Kerr and Jessica Kendall will be out to force the upset.
