Kelly Eastough is hoping the Mid West will have a strong presence in this year’s 19 and under WA State netball team.

Eastough was named assistant coach of the side last week and is waiting with bated breath to hear if local products Emma Cosh and Zoe Sellers will make the cut.

Cosh and Sellers will find out their fate on Saturday when the team is cut from 18 players to 12.

The selected team will travel to Tasmania in March for the National Netball Championships.

“It would be great if the three of us went over to represent WA and the Mid West,” Eastough said.

“Both Emma and Zoe are very strong players and we are hoping they can make the final cut.”

Former 19 and under head coach Stacey Rosman has joined Norma Plummer to coach the West Coast Fever.

Andrea McCulloch stepped into the head coaching role, leaving the assistant coaching role vacant.

Eastough said she was more than happy to grab the opportunity with both hands.

“I’m over the moon and I can’t wait to start,” she said.

“I have been in the program for two years now so I know what to expect.”

Eastough was apprentice coach for the 19 and under squad in 2011.

In 2010 she took on team manager duties for both the 19 and 17 and under State teams.

She hopes to draw on her previous experiences to help this year’s side to glory.

“I guess the experience I have already had gives me greater insight,” she said.

“I hope that I can bring back some of what I learn into the local competition.”

The local Falcons player/coach will spend every weekend in Perth until the championships begin on March 30.
